PHOTOGRAPHY GOES TO THE MOVIES!
Month of Photography Asia Festival 2008 explores the relationship between photography and cinema.
Month of Photography Asia (MOPAsia), the annual Singapore-based photography festival, returns in 2008 with the theme of ‘Still/Moving: Photography & Cinema’ with exhibitions and talks that explore the relationship between two art forms, photography and cinema, which share a common heritage and history. In its sixth year, MOPAsia 2008 will be on from 13 June to 20 July and features several exhibitions in various venues: The Magic of Cinema – A Magnum Photos Exhibition at The Cathay, Method by Sean Lee at Post-Museum, HanoiHaiku by Sherman Ong at 2902 Gallery, Alain Fleischer: Time Exposures at the Singapore Art Museum and Out of Focus at Night & Day Gallery and Starbound by Marcel Thomas at the Alliance Francaise de Singapour. Each of these exhibitions addresses the theme through different genres of photography, at times presenting a documentary approach to the notion of photography and cinema and at other times engaging the theme conceptually in its approach to ideas of time, space and movement.
